Players Championship Night One Results from Doncaster
Well I had a great night watching the darts, after spending some of the afternoon with the top two seeds chatting and watching them practice, before heading off to the venue. Justin Pipe and myself left the players lounge and sat and watched the entire night’s darts in the middle of the fans, with JP signing a bucket load of autographs and chatting with the fans. While it may have looked fairly empty on the TV, it was definitely a bigger crowd than the dismal number last year.
A few surprises tonight, some players not playing at all to their full potential (Mark Hylton and Jamie Caven for starters). Paul Nicholson went out to Bomber Brown, after just missing bull for a dramatic 170 checkout. I think that sees Paul drop right down the rankings, as he was defending 60K from his win two years ago. I hope he has a great worlds to make up for it, otherwise his rumoured Premier League place may be in doubt?
I must say Barney looked supreme tonight – he was throwing so smooth. I got to see Barney before the tournament started, as he chatted with JP and Gary Anderson (I just stood there like a numpty 😉 ) . I think he hit eight 180’s in his 9 leg game, some going!
Richie Burnett seemed out of sorts to me – didn’t seem to get into the game at all, and was fairly easily swept aside by Wes Newton.
A gallery of photo’s from last night is here. I’ll add more in coming days.
